May peace be upon you.
I'm Anas and today I would like to share my reflection on one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals that I have experienced throughout my life. This reflection focuses on "Good Health and Well-Being," and this story is about my experience in helping my friend to prevent him from having a bad mental health and also physically, and trying to get him into better health.
This journey started when I saw this close
friend of mine having bad mental health or we could say burnout after not
having a good study time and also not taking care of his self-care routines.
Before I took my step, I expected that there would be some challenges while
trying to help him. For example, maybe he would ignore my efforts or not
believe in what I was trying to do and say. Because of that, I had to carefully
plan a solid strategy to make him believe that I was trying to help him and to
follow my suggestions. After that, maybe the plan would go smoothly.
With all the preparations and strategies that
I had planned, it turned out well and even better than I expected.
Unfortunately, there were still some challenges I had to go through even though
my plan was going well. But all praises to Allah, I was able to overcome those
problems one by one quite well. For example, I had to push or convince my
friend multiple times to make sure he did what I told him to for his health.
Aside from that, I learned a lot from this
experience from many aspects. For example, there is nothing harder than being
consistent in life. I also learned that people do need rest and "me
time" in their life, and they need to be smart in studying without pushing
the body too much. On top of that, people must take care of their self-care
routines regardless of how busy they are especially students in order to have
better health, both mentally and physically.
After this journey ended, I felt very relieved
and happy about how things turned out for my friend, and I felt proud of myself
for not ignoring him especially when he was my closest friend at university at
that time. Sometimes I think about what might have happened if I had ignored
him while he was on the brink of falling, and it makes me feel afraid even
thinking about it.
Throughout this journey, there were moments I felt really pleased with, but the one that will always stay in my heart was when he started doing the things I used to remind him of on his own. It showed me that he was becoming a much better and healthier person. If you ask me what I would do differently next time, I would make sure to check on my friends earlier before it’s too late. Lastly, from this journey I gained many lessons in life on how to treat our bodies better, the importance of health, and how to take care of our well-being.
